Bobbie and Joe haven’t spoken for 15 years. In 1955, at the height of the Second Red Scare, Joe gave up Bobbie to the House of Un-American Activities- forcing her to flee the country and live in exile overseas. This single act breaks up their rising folk band and separates the two indefinitely, until now - because Bobbie is back, unannounced, and standing in the doorway of Joe’s workplace. All at once the past rushes in and begins to fill the space with regrettable words said and unsaid like a thousand tiny specters. History: something they share and do not share - something they had until it had its way with them.

A fresh take on the“two-hander” with folk songs threaded through intimate scenes, Red Young Ruffians asks: in times of great upheaval and censorship, what is our duty as humans, as artists, as lovers?
